Food Share

The Food Share Program, made possible through Community Block Development Grant funding, is the newest way that Missoula Food Bank seeks to alleviate hunger. Working in cooperation with Community Hospital and Community Needs Van Service, Food Share provides transportation from doorstep to doorstep for people who need Missoula Food Bank assistance, but face transportation and/or mobility challenges. Through this program, which started in May of 2005, clients are picked up at their homes and brought to the food bank. Once at our facility, special help is available to assist them as they browse our shelves. When they have completed their visit, their food is loaded back on the van. Volunteers go along to help clients from the van to their doors, and to help carry the groceries inside.

Food Share is open to anyone who faces food insecurity, but lacks transportation or mobility to safely get to and from the food bank. It is open to wheelchair bound people, people with sight impairments, and anyone else who might benefit from this service. The program serves the Missoula community and Lolo.

Operating every Monday, Food Share currently helps about 30 Missoula households each month.

For more information on the Food Share program contact Aaron Brock at aaron@missoulafoodbank.org or 549-0543.
