Volunteering in the Rain
Rain is good for farming. So are volunteers. So when Missoula Food Bank staff spent time volunteering in the rain at Orchard Garden, one of Garden City Harvest'scommunity and neighborhood farms, it was pretty much a win-win.
Staff spent time on the farm helping to pull weeds and lending some much-appreciated assistance to farm manager, Sarah. Sarah is entering her tenth season with Garden City Harvest, having raised tens of thousands of pounds of local produce for programs like the Senior Mobile Market. Orchard Garden is a partnership with Homeword's Orchard Homes affordable housing project, helping to bring low-cost, local produce to people of all incomes in our community.
Over the summer and early fall, Missoula Food Bank will stock more than 15,000 lbs. of Garden City Harvest produce, helping to improve the quality and nutritional value of food offered at our local food bank. Team building works best with farm tools, we think. We are grateful for our partnership with GCH and their many sites, and hope to head back to the farm soon!
