Kid's Cafe

Boy BookIt's a sad fact that in Missoula, and indeed throughout the United States, children, out of all proportion to their numbers, are victims of poverty and hunger. At Missoula Food Bank we believe that addressing the needs of children in poverty should be one of America's first priorities, and we try to do our part through programs like Kids Café.

Launched in August of 2001, the Kids Café program provides lunches to children who might otherwise go hungry during the summer and school breaks, when they are unable to access school lunch programs. At Kids Café, we provide a safe location where children can have a nutritious meal and enjoy a variety of fun activities.

We are pleased to be able to say that through our Food Circle program, a good deal of the food served at the Kids Café comes from commercial kitchens throughout the community. This summer we are serving lunches to 75 to 90 kids every day at the Boys and Girls Club Summer Fun Camp. And we have a pilot program to provide sack lunches for 15 to 20 kids attending the Paxson Elementary School Title I program. If you have questions about Kids Café, or would like to participate in it in some way, please contact Dean Thompson, the Kid's Cafe Coordinator.
