Food Rescue

We envision a community that embraces food justice where everyone is food secure.

ENVISIONING FOOD SECURITY FOR ALL

FOOD CIRCLE

Our Food Circle program accepts prepared, perishable food from commercial food establishments. Using sanitized containers, excess prepared food is collected at donor establishments by a driver trained in safe food handling. Donated food is briefly stored in our walk-in cooler until it is repacked into single-serving meals. Meals are labeled and dated and immediately frozen for distribution.

In 2021, we helped keep 5,022 LBS of prepared food from heading to the landfill

In 2021, 22,539 LBS of food were distributed to other agencies we partner with like Share House, Poverello Center, the Temporary Safe Outdoor Space, the Dignity Center, Hope Rescue Mission, the Cares Team, and the City/County COVID quarantine Sleepy Inn.

Grocery Rescue

Our Grocery Rescue program partners with local grocery stores to accept food that would otherwise be set aside for the landfill. Instead, this food is hand sorted for freshness and expiration dates, by food bank volunteers, to help stock our food bank shelves.

In 2021, we helped keep 1,260,224 LBS of grocery store food from heading to the landfill

941,127.5 LBS were perishable

319,096.5 LBS were non-perishable

In 2020, we helped save 1,140,368 LBS

Food Rescue

In the past year, we rescued 1,260,224 pounds of food that would've wound up in Missoula's landfill through our Grocery Rescue & Food Circle program. What isn't usable in our store goes to the goat bins, feeding Missoula's furry little friends.
